  5. Ribosomal protein S16 is one of the proteins from the small ribosomal subunit.
  6. It belongs  to  a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence
  7. similarities [1], groups:

  9.  - Eubacterial S16.
  10.  - Algal and plant chloroplast S16.
  11.  - Neurospora crassa mitochondrial S24 (cyt-21).

  13. S16 is a protein of  about 100 amino-acid residues. As a signature pattern, we
  14. selected a  conserved  region  located  in  the  N-terminal extremity of these
  15. proteins.
